Riverzedge Arts staff share a vision with the board, volunteer corps, and youth for success, innovative capacity, a commitment to materials and resource conservation, and boundless energy to provide hope and contribution to others.
Kristen Williams, PHD, Executive Director
Kristen’s path to Riverzedge Arts has been a winding one with a perfect destination. Trained as a theatre practitioner and an academic, Kristen has been by turns a director and playwright, a published poet, and a college professor. She holds degrees in Theatre, English, and American Studies from Rhode Island College, the University of Toronto, and the University of Maryland, College Park. Coming of age in the do-it-yourself punk rock scenes of Providence and northern Rhode Island, Kristen believes strongly in the power of creativity to draw out and amplify the unique strengths of people, landscapes, and cultures to produce powerful and healthy communities. In her free time, she is an avid reader, gardener, and amateur furniture-builder, and is never happier than when she is trailing behind her dog on a hike in the woods.
Kristin Hark, Arts Education Director
Kristin is a big kid. A dreamer. A doer and an advocate here to celebrate the individuality of young people. Driven by both efficacy and creativity with equal measure. Qualities that intersect to form organized and thoughtful adventures in the visual arts." Kristin received her associate degree from Cape Cod Community College in Liberal Arts, where she studied abnormal psychology under the tutelage of Dr. Michele Wolfson, PhD. She went on to complete her bachelor's degree at Smith College as an Ada Comstock Scholar in 2021, with a focus on Studio Art and Neuropsychology. She completed her practicum at the VA Hospital in Leeds, MA, with the Soldier On organization. While at Smith College, Kristin assisted in illustrating textbooks, supporting the research of Dr. Mary Harrington, B.Sc., M.A., PhD, with her work in neurobiology, including Circadian Clock Regulation in the Aging Vascular Unit, and Beyond the Symptom: The Biology of Fatigue. Before going back to school, Kristin spent much of her career studying under professional chefs in the fine dining industry. She developed her craft at several restaurants, including those in Boston, Costa Rica, and Rhode Island. At Castle Hill Inn in Newport, RI, Kristin managed the culinary team with their acclaimed Forbes 4 Star fine dining program. She walked away from that life to become an educator, finding her true passion: teaching K-8 visual arts. She spends her free time painting, cooking, and long walks on the beach with her family.
